WWE Officials Interpret Turki Alalshikh’s Canelo Alvarez Remarks as a Critique of TKO Amid Crown Jewel Concerns

WWE executives are reconsidering their plans due to safety issues in Saudi Arabia, just weeks before the Crown Jewel premium live event (PLE) is scheduled. The partnership with Saudi Arabia has generated the highest revenue in WWE’s history, but it has also presented ongoing challenges.

The current tense situation in the Middle East has sparked worry within WWE about proceeding with Crown Jewel as planned.

Turki Alalshikh’s Comment Seen as a Subtle Jab at WWE and TKO

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE officials believe Turki Alalshikh’s recent remarks about Canelo Alvarez were directed at them. Internally, WWE remains uncertain about the upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia.

Meltzer mentioned the final decision on attending the event will rest with TKO President Ari Emanuel, who is expected to consider input from Nick Khan and other senior TKO executives.

Meltzer said: "In WWE, when that tweet came out, I mean they knew it was a message for them too. This is obviously going to be Ari Emanuel’s decision. This is way over Nick Khan’s head. I’m sure it won’t be without Nick Khan’s input."

Alalshikh’s Support for Canelo Amid Regional Tensions

Just days ago, Turki Alalshikh posted on X addressing concerns about the possibility of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Christian Mbilli fight being canceled due to the regional instability.

He confirmed the bout would proceed as planned and praised Canelo for his loyalty during difficult times for Saudi Arabia's leadership.

Alalshikh wrote: "Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens. He fears nothing. My country is home to the two Holy Mosques, land of peace, safety, rich civilisation, deep history, and kind-hearted people. Thank you to everyone who checked in and showed support. Hard times reveal true friends."

Timing of WWE’s Promotional Push Raises Questions

Notably, WWE began promoting Crown Jewel on this week’s Monday Night RAW just hours after Alalshikh’s pointed message. This timing may not be accidental.

This is not WWE’s first challenge in its Saudi partnership. In 2018, when many companies pulled out over controversies, WWE faced heavy criticism for continuing with Crown Jewel. Vince McMahon responded by bringing Hulk Hogan back to the company after a three-year Hall of Fame removal, diverting attention from the backlash.

At present, WWE’s promotion of Crown Jewel does not guarantee the event will occur, as TKO officials continue to assess the situation closely.
