Court McGee Shares Why UFC 332 Will Be His Final MMA Fight
Court McGee, a long-time competitor in the UFC welterweight division, has announced that his bout at UFC 332 will mark the end of his professional MMA career. McGee, who first entered the UFC in 2010 after winning Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, is set to face Eric Nolan in the opening preliminary fight on Saturday at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Reasons Behind McGee's Decision to Retire
The 41-year-old fighter from Utah had already made it known that this would be his last fight, but he recently opened up about why he's stepping away from the sport. In an interview with MMAjunkie.com, McGee explained that he had decided to retire years ago when he signed a four-fight contract, knowing his time in the octagon was nearing its end.
"Yeah, it's a retirement fight, but I knew it a couple of years ago when I signed this four-fight deal, so I knew it was coming to an end, and I felt confident with it. Before that, with the neck injury, I thought I was done and I was going to leave a fight on the table, and after fulfilling that last one, I hadn't felt that good in years. I feel really good. I feel really healthy, but I'm 41 and I'll be turning 42 this year. Like they say, it's a young man's sport, and I want to make sure I have my wits about me when I'm done. I have three kids; I'm married. I have a gym. There's a lot of life ahead of me after 40. I feel good about my decision. I made that decision with those who are close to me, and I'm OK with it. I've made peace with it," McGee shared.
McGee Faces Long Odds Against Eric Nolan
Despite his experience and fan support, McGee enters the fight as a significant underdog. Current betting lines show McGee at +190, while Nolan is favored at -225. Even though Nolan holds an 0-2 record in the UFC, his youth, power, and durability present a tough challenge for McGee. Still, McGee's stamina and wrestling skills make the match-up compelling for fans.
