Stephen Curry Ready for Season Opener After Ankle Incident in Practice

Stephen Curry had a scare during Sunday’s open practice with the Golden State Warriors, but he is expected to play in the team’s season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night.

Curry rolled his right ankle while handling the ball near the top of the key at the Chase Center. He immediately stopped, slammed the ball on the floor, and showed visible frustration. After limping off the court and briefly doubling over at the bench, he headed to the locker room.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reassured fans that the injury did not affect Curry’s previously troublesome knee. Kerr spoke after the practice and said Curry was fine. On Monday, Kerr confirmed Curry fully participated in team practice and will be ready for the Lakers game.

"Always, always," Kerr said when asked if his heart skipped a beat seeing Curry limp off, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Luca Evans. "He’s fine. I talked to him after he went downstairs into the training room."

Curry’s Recent History and Season Outlook

Last season, Curry averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game in his 17th year with the Warriors. Unfortunately, he played only 43 games due to a persistent right knee injury. The Warriors struggled throughout the season, finishing 37-45 and missing the playoffs for the second time in three years.

In response to the challenges, Curry signed a two-year, $116 million contract extension with the Warriors last month, showing his commitment to the franchise.

Upcoming Matchup

The Warriors will start their 2026-27 season facing off against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Despite the brief injury scare during practice, Curry remains on track to lead the team as the season begins.
