Shubman Gill's Captaincy Record Across All Formats: Tests, T20Is, ODIs, and IPL

Shubman Gill has quickly risen to prominence as a key leader in Indian cricket. Since taking over as Test captain in 2025, he has delivered notable performances including leveling a Test series in England and securing series wins against the West Indies, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

His leadership was highlighted by India’s 165-run win in the first Test of the two-match series versus Sri Lanka in Galle, marking his sixth victory in 10 Tests. Yet, the second match ended in a draw after Sri Lanka’s resilient batting on the final day, slightly lowering Gill’s overall Test win percentage.

At only 26 years old, Gill has captained India in Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and also leads the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has steered the Gujarat Titans to playoff appearances in both 2025 and 2026.

He notched his first ODI series victory as captain in June 2026 with a clean sweep against Afghanistan. In the July 2026 series against England, India won the opener at Edgbaston but lost the next two matches, losing the series.

Appointed before the 2025 England tour following the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Gill faced a tough start with a 2-2 drawn Test series in England. But he soon led India to their first Test series win under his command against the West Indies at home.

He further guided India to an overseas Test series win against Afghanistan in June 2026 and then into a two-Test series against Sri Lanka. The Galle Test showcased India’s dominance with a strong first innings score of 462, bowling Sri Lanka out for 284, and setting a target of 372. India won by 165 runs, raising Gill’s tally to six wins in 10 Tests and a 60% win rate.

The draw in Colombo brought his overall Test win percentage down slightly.
