Rinku Singh and Priya Saroj's Wedding in Lucknow

Indian cricketer Rinku Singh and Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj are set to swap the roar of stadiums and the cut-and-thrust of politics for wedding rituals in Lucknow this December.

The couple will marry on December 4 at the Ramada Hotel in the Uttar Pradesh capital, with preparations gathering pace on both sides of the aisle. The guest list is expected to stay intimate: family, close relatives, and a handful of special invitees.

From fan page to forever

Their story did not begin at a political rally or a cricket function. It began on a screen.

During the Covid years, when the IPL had shifted to Mumbai and players lived inside bio-bubbles, Rinku was scrolling online when a picture caught his eye. It was on a fan page related to voting in Priya’s village. The left-handed batter, who would later become a household name with Kolkata Knight Riders, paused. He thought she was perfect for him. He just did not know what to do next.

For a while, he hesitated. Then came the small signal that changed everything.

Priya liked a couple of his photos on Instagram. That was enough. Rinku finally sent her a message, and the conversation started to flow. Soon, they were speaking regularly, even before his matches. The routine of a professional cricketer’s life suddenly had a new, personal rhythm.

Speaking to The Times of India after their engagement, Rinku recalled that it was in 2022 that he truly began to “feel the love” as their chats deepened and the bond grew. What began as a tentative social media interaction slowly turned into a relationship, built quietly while his career gathered momentum on the field.

In June 2025, they made it official with an engagement ceremony at The Centrum Hotel in Lucknow, drawing both families together and turning a digital connection into a real-world commitment.

Cheering from the stands

Priya has not stayed in the background. She has been seen in the stands, most notably at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, backing Rinku as he carved out his place with Kolkata Knight Riders. Amid the sea of purple and gold, cameras occasionally picked her out, cheering for the batter whose late-overs hitting has lit up the IPL.

Rinku, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, has since spoken publicly about their relationship, giving fans a rare glimpse into his life away from the crease. For a player whose rise has been built on grit and timing, the romance has added a softer subplot to a career usually measured in runs and strike-rates.

Priya, meanwhile, has carved out her own space in public life as the Samajwadi Party MP from Machhlishahr, balancing constituency duties with her growing visibility as Rinku’s most recognisable supporter.

A new date on the calendar

Right now, Rinku is not part of India’s squad for the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan. His schedule, for once, is not dominated by nets, travel, and selection debates. Instead, December 4 stands out on his calendar for a very different reason.

No floodlights. No scoreboards. Just a hotel in Lucknow, two families, and a cricketer and an MP who first met through a fan page and a few liked photos, now preparing to walk into a very different kind of partnership.
