Peter Handscomb Reflects on Facing India's Accurate Bowlers During Australia A Tour
Peter Handscomb, leading the Australia A squad on their tour in India, shared insights into the difficulty of facing Indian bowlers. Known for their precision, the Indian pace and spin attacks rarely offer loose deliveries, which makes scoring a persistent challenge.
Handscomb admitted that his start in the first unofficial Test against India A in Puducherry was not ideal. Still, he sees this tour as an opportunity not just to perform now but also to prepare for what lies ahead in his cricket career.
Experience Against India Shapes Approach
Having appeared in 11 Test matches against India, Handscomb understands the kind of discipline required. His approach is not merely about attacking recklessly but about spotting chances to accumulate runs even when the bowling is tight.
"You have to attack when the chance arises, but it's tough," Handscomb told The Times of India before the second Test starting Tuesday. "The Indian bowlers are incredibly accurate, consistent and don't give many bad balls. You need to find ways to score off good deliveries. It can be difficult when the ball behaves unpredictably, but that's part of the challenge playing in India."
More than half of his Test appearances have been against India, and while the repeated contests are demanding, Handscomb regards it as a privilege.
"It's tough to keep facing India, but it's an amazing experience," he said. "Some of the best players in the world are here, and I've been lucky to play against many of them."
