Lhuan-dre Pretorius Makes History with T20 Century

Lhuan-dre Pretorius smashed his way into South African cricket history in Windhoek, becoming the youngest player from his country to score a T20 International century.

The 20-year-old opener, fresh off a blazing 94 against Zimbabwe earlier in the week, went one better against Namibia, hammering 101 from just 53 balls in an 11-run win in the Tri Series. He cleared the ropes eight times, threaded five fours, and never really let the bowlers breathe.

If Pretorius lit the fuse, Connor Esterhuizen poured on the accelerant.

Walking in with the same intent, Esterhuizen thumped 88 from only 40 deliveries. The pair tore into the Namibian attack, adding 156 in just 11.5 overs, a partnership that turned a solid start into a towering total. By the time they were separated, the Proteas had the game by the throat.

South Africa, having been sent in, finished on a formidable 228 for four, a statement score in any conditions, let alone in a tri-series fixture away from home.

Namibia, though, refused to disappear quietly.

Their top order counter-punched and kept the chase alive deep into the innings, turning what could have been a procession into a genuine contest. The runs kept flowing, the ball kept flying, and the fielders spent most of the evening retrieving it from the boundary cushions.

The hosts closed on 217 for three, just 11 runs short in a match dominated by batters on both sides. South Africa’s attack did enough to hold their nerve, but it was Pretorius’ landmark innings and his brutal stand with Esterhuizen that drew the line between the teams.

One week, two big scores, and now a record to his name. For a 20-year-old opener, this feels less like a breakout and more like the start of something substantial for the Proteas’ future.
