Gloucestershire Sign Young Bowler Che Simmons on Loan
Gloucestershire have moved early to secure one of county cricket’s most intriguing young quicks, bringing in Warwickshire fast bowler Che Simmons on loan for the rest of the season ahead of a permanent switch in 2027.
The 22-year-old will be available for Gloucestershire’s final three County Championship fixtures and has already signed a two-year contract to begin next summer, underlining the club’s belief that he can grow into a frontline spearhead.
Simmons broke into Warwickshire’s Championship side in 2024, but opportunities have been scarce. Three first-class appearances is a thin return for a bowler widely regarded as a serious prospect, and the search for regular red-ball cricket has driven this move west.
He made no secret that game time was decisive, describing the chance to play consistent first-team cricket as a “big factor” in his decision to leave the Bears and commit to a new dressing room.
Gloucestershire see the upside. Director of cricket Jon Lewis called Simmons “a hugely talented young cricketer with a very high ceiling”, pointing out that while the seamer has logged plenty of overs in Warwickshire’s second XI, the time has come to test him properly at senior level.
For a club rebuilding its attack and hungry for pace, this is a calculated bet: three games now, two years to follow, and a raw quick with room to grow into something far more imposing.
