Glamorgan Secures England Spinner Georgia Davis on Three-Year Deal
Glamorgan have made a powerful move in their push towards Tier One cricket, securing the signature of England off-spinner Georgia Davis on a three-year contract from Warwickshire.
At 27, Davis arrives as one of the most respected operators on the domestic circuit, a player whose steady rise has mirrored the rapid growth of the women’s game. This is not a speculative signing. It is a statement.
She joins as Glamorgan build towards Tier One status in 2027, and the capture of Warwickshire’s first women’s captain – appointed in 2025 – underlines the ambition in Cardiff. Glamorgan are not just planning to be there when the new structure beds in; they intend to matter.
Davis has earned that kind of billing. A consistent force across regional and franchise cricket, she turned a standout summer with Central Sparks in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy into an England debut, making her first international appearance in a one-day game against Ireland in September 2024.
Her name is already familiar to Welsh fans. Davis has been a regular in The Hundred, initially with Trent Rockets before becoming a key part of Welsh Fire, for whom she played 13 matches across the 2024 and 2025 campaigns. Those stints have given her plenty of overs at Sophia Gardens and a feel for the rhythms of Welsh cricket – and its expectations.
“Joining Glamorgan is an opportunity I'm incredibly grateful for,” Davis said as the move was confirmed. “The club's history, heritage, and contribution to Welsh cricket make it a special place, and it's clear that something really exciting is being built here.
“The success the women's team achieved in Tier Two has laid a fantastic foundation, and it's a credit to everyone who has worked so hard to get the club to this point.
“I'm excited to play my part in the next chapter, helping the club take on the challenge of Tier One. I can't wait to get started, meet everyone involved, and contribute to what I believe will be a very exciting future for Glamorgan.”
The timing feels deliberate. Glamorgan’s women have been climbing, collecting results in Tier Two and building a core that now needs a player who has seen the game from every angle: county, regional, franchise, international. Davis brings all of that, and something else – leadership.
For Warwickshire, she broke ground as their first women’s captain, a role that sharpened the tactical side of her game and hardened her competitive edge. For Glamorgan, that experience becomes a resource, both in the dressing room and out in the middle when the pressure tightens.
Glamorgan’s head of women and girls’ cricket, Aimee Rees, made no attempt to play down the scale of the signing.
“Georgia is a fantastic addition to our squad and we're delighted to have her on board,” Rees said. “She brings a wealth of experience from international and franchise cricket, as well as strong leadership qualities, which will be invaluable to the group both on and off the field.
“Georgia already has a strong connection with the club through Welsh Fire. She understands the environment, the ambitions we have and the importance of representing Welsh cricket.”
That existing bond could prove crucial. Transitioning from franchise colours to county whites can sometimes feel like a step into the unknown. Davis, though, already knows the walk from the dressing room at Sophia Gardens, already knows the faces in the stands, already knows what it means to carry the flag for Welsh cricket in a national competition.
Glamorgan, who have been chasing silverware in competitions such as the One Day Cup and have already moved to bring in talent like Smale from Lancashire, are piecing together a squad designed not just to compete, but to contend when Tier One arrives.
With Davis now locked in until at least 2027, the picture sharpens. Glamorgan have their frontline spinner, a proven performer, a captain in all but name. The question is no longer whether they are serious about Tier One.
It is how far this group, with Davis at its heart, can push the ceiling of Welsh women’s cricket.
