Glamorgan Advances to Final After Rain-Interrupted Semi-Final
Glamorgan’s route to the Metro Bank One-Day Cup Women’s League 2 final was sealed not with a boundary or a wicket, but with a weather bulletin.
On a grey, unrelenting afternoon at Sophia Gardens, their semi-final against Kent never truly began. The covers stayed on, the outfield grew heavier by the hour, and every hopeful inspection ended the same way – with umpires and groundstaff shaking their heads under a steady Cardiff drizzle.
Both sides had earned the right to be there. Each finished the league phase with six wins and two defeats, locked together on victories but separated by the smallest of margins. Glamorgan’s two bonus points nudged them into second place in the table, just ahead of Kent in third, and that slender edge proved decisive once the rain took over.
The prospect of a shortened contest lingered for a while. Players warmed up, then cooled down. Spectators checked radar apps as often as they checked the square. But the weather never relented long enough to make even a reduced-overs game realistic, and the semi-final was eventually abandoned.
By virtue of their higher league finish, Glamorgan advance to Sunday’s final at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol, where they will meet either Middlesex or Northamptonshire on 20 September.
It will be more than a shot at silverware. For Glamorgan, that final is set to be their last outing before stepping into professional status next season – a curtain call on one era, and the first real test of what the next one might look like.
