Fighter Addresses Controversy and Focuses on Career After Defeat
The fighter at the centre of a storm over resurfaced college-era allegations has issued a detailed public statement, addressing his family, fans and critics while vowing the controversy will not define his career.
Speaking in the aftermath of his defeat on Saturday night, the athlete said the incident raised by his opponent during fight week had already been dealt with years ago and insisted he did not commit the acts alleged.
“This statement is for my family, my friends, my fans and the people who truly know me and know the kind of man I am,” he began, making it clear he was speaking as much as a husband and father as he was a professional fighter.
He acknowledged there are people who will never support him “no matter what I say or do,” but stressed he wanted to address those who know him personally, including as a father to a young daughter.
An incident from his college years was brought back into the spotlight in the build-up to the bout, something he believes was done to unsettle him mentally. That tactic, he said, also forced him to relive a matter he maintains was fully examined long ago.
“I want to be clear — I did not do anything alleged,” he said, stating that he was never charged with a crime and that the case was ultimately dropped by the district attorney.
He underlined that the accusations were not “ignored nor brushed aside,” but “thoroughly and heavily reviewed” as he cooperated with law enforcement, including a separate Title IX review. According to his account, that process ended without criminal charges, without a conviction and without any formal finding of responsibility against him.
“The matter was closed and there is no pending legal issue involving me,” he said, adding that his own attorney conducted an independent investigation and stated on the record that even if the law had been different, the outcome would have been the same.
He accepted the gravity of such allegations and recognised that people will have questions when they only hear fragments of a story. From here, he said, his focus will narrow: his wife, his daughter, his wider family and the work ahead of him in his career.
“To the people who support me, thank you,” he said, stressing that his sense of self is anchored in those closest to him. “I know who I am. My family knows who I am. The people who have walked with me through life know who I am. That’s what matters to me and that’s where I’m going to keep my focus.”
He then turned briefly to the sporting reality of the weekend. There was no attempt to disguise the result, no excuses offered.
“As for my opponent, congratulations, you caught me,” he admitted. “A mistake on my end was made. It was your night.”
He drew a direct line back to his wrestling days, recalling how previous defeats had fuelled his rise to the top of that sport. He believes this loss will serve the same purpose.
“Just like my wrestling days after my loss, I came back with an undeniable will to win and focus that led me to the top of my sport,” he said. “The result of Saturday night, I believe, will catapult me to do the same. I will be great and this won’t deny me.”
A career already marked by high expectations now moves forward under a sharper spotlight, with the fighter adamant that his response — in and out of competition — will define what comes next.
