LONDON – Under a low, sullen Lord’s sky, Jofra Archer allowed himself a rare glance into the future.

“I could play until I'm 40 at this rate,” he said, half a smile, half a statement of intent.

For a fast bowler with a medical file thicker than most scorecards, it sounded almost defiant. But across two ruthless days against Pakistan, England’s new fast-bowling cartel showed exactly why the idea no longer feels fanciful.

A Quartet That Hunts in Packs

“Nah, the speed gun isn't working properly,” he said. “I saw some of them as I went back, it was nice to see but I've had times where I've felt better and never really had the speeds to show for it. I don't know who is up in the box working it but thanks, I'll take it.”

While Archer brought the theatre, Robinson quietly applied the chokehold. Thirteen overs, 11 runs, four wickets. Barely a bad ball. Barely a release of pressure.

This is the luxury England now enjoy. If Archer doesn’t get you with pace, Robinson will nag you into mistakes. If they tire, Tongue and Atkinson arrive fresh, quick and hungry.

Shared Overs, Shared Future

For Archer, the collective matters as much as the carnage.

“It's really nice having the extra seamers in the line-up,” he said. “If someone is feeling tired you can just tell Rooty and get swapped out. You get fresh, then, you come back again. You don't have to do too much because someone is going to back you up until you find your feet again.”

That simple rotation might be the difference between a career that flickers and one that endures. A 31-year-old fast bowler talking about playing on until 40 is usually indulging in fantasy. On this tour, it sounds like planning.

England in Control, Weather in Play

With the balling unit rampant, England’s only real opponent now might be the weather.

They closed on 81-3 in their second innings, Emilio Gay anchoring the reply with a gritty, unbeaten 30. No fireworks, just resistance and time at the crease, exactly what the situation demanded with a lead already towering.

Heavy rain is forecast for Saturday and could slow England’s march, but the advantage is so commanding that only prolonged interruption will give Pakistan a realistic escape route.

For now, though, the story sits with the fast bowlers. Archer, Robinson, Tongue and Atkinson have turned this series into a trial by pace and precision. Pakistan have discovered how brutal that combination can be.
