Desire Doue Applauds PSG's Precision After Ending Barcelona's Champions League Streak
Desire Doue praised Paris Saint-Germain for their relentless focus after scoring in Tuesday's thrilling 4-2 Champions League win that snapped Barcelona's 11-match unbeaten run.
French Starlet Leads Paris to Victory
The young forward, Doue, opened the scoring in a match at Parc des Princes that saw the reigning European champions end the La Liga leaders' impressive streak. Building on his impressive performance against Manchester City the previous week, he found the net in the 38th minute with a precise low shot into the bottom corner. This goal came during a first half when Barcelona allowed 10 shots on target, their highest since the 2003-04 season.
PSG's High-Pressure Game Disrupts Barcelona
The home side's aggressive pressing caused early trouble. Just 79 seconds in, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post following a turnover by Pedri. Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia made several saves, denying Ousmane Dembele and substitute Ferran Torres twice after Dembele left the field injured. On the other end, PSG’s goalkeeper Matvey Safonov also kept out attempts from Raphinha and Fermin Lopez.
Doue told PSG TV, "We knew it was going to be a match of the highest standard. We were up to the challenge and showed some great football. We took our chances. The aim was to score more goals than them, because we knew they could score as well. They are a quality opponent, but we got the win and that's fantastic."
Second Half Brilliance Secures Historic Win
Barcelona’s 19-year-old full-back Xavi Espart equalized shortly after halftime, but Lucas Hernandez restored PSG's lead with a commanding header from a corner kick. Despite Lamine Yamal leveling again for the visitors, Vitinha volleyed home quickly after chesting down a clearance, followed by Fabian Ruiz converting Achraf Hakimi's low cross.
This victory brought PSG's tally to 14 goals in three matches, tying Arsenal’s 2010-11 record and making them the first team since Barcelona between September 2016 and March 2017 to score four or more goals in three consecutive home games in the Champions League.
Doue added, "No matter what happens during the game, we try and stay focused every time. We know our qualities, we know we can score at any moment, whether that's immediately after conceding a goal, or straight after scoring one ourselves, we are able to stay focused on what we have to do and tonight we did it well."
