Derby Police Investigate Assault Allegations Involving Brydon Carse

England fast bowler Brydon Carse is at the centre of a police investigation after being briefly arrested and handcuffed outside a Derby nightclub on Saturday night.

Images shared widely on social media showed the 31-year-old in handcuffs, surrounded by officers, during a night out in the city. Derbyshire Police later confirmed a man in his 30s had been detained on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre before being released.

The incident has already had consequences for Carse’s international plans. The England and Wales Cricket Board has removed him from the England squad for the second Test against Pakistan while the Cricket Regulator conducts its own investigation.

Carse, who has been capped by England in both white-ball and Test cricket, has instead been named in Durham’s County Championship side for their match against Gloucestershire.

Police initially moved to play down the scale of the incident. On Monday, Derbyshire Police said a man had been detained outside Molly Malone's bar and “de-arrested” shortly afterwards when he agreed to leave the area.

Their stance hardened midweek.

On Wednesday, the force confirmed it is now looking into more serious claims linked to the same night. “We are investigating allegations of an assault in Derby city centre. No arrests have yet been made and the investigation is ongoing,” read the latest statement.

Carse has been approached for comment. The ECB has so far declined to add to its brief confirmation that the matter has been passed to the Cricket Regulator.

For a bowler pushing to cement his place in England’s plans, the next significant movement in his career may now come not from the selection panel, but from the outcome of a police file in Derby.
