Dani Gibson Signs New Deal with Somerset Until 2028
Somerset have secured a key pillar of their future, tying down England all-rounder Dani Gibson on a new deal that runs until the end of the 2028 season.
At 25, Gibson already carries the air of a senior pro. She has featured eight times for Somerset across the last two campaigns, scoring 262 runs with a highest score of 77, and giving the batting order a sturdiness it has often lacked. When she plays, the side looks different: calmer, more organised, more dangerous.
Her pedigree is obvious. Gibson has represented England in six One-Day Internationals and 35 T20 Internationals, compiling 722 runs and taking 21 wickets on the global stage. Those numbers matter, but it is the way she goes about it – the tempo with the bat, the discipline with the ball – that makes her such a valuable signing for a county intent on building something lasting.
Somerset head coach Erin Osborne made no attempt to hide her delight.
“Any opportunity that we have to get Dani back into our environment is always a positive one,” Osborne said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which you just can't buy. We've got a really young group, so any chance they get to spend time around players like Dani and learn from her is a really good one.”
That is the crux of this deal. Somerset are not just retaining runs and wickets; they are anchoring a dressing room around a player who has seen the standards required at international level and is prepared to drag others towards them.
For a young squad trying to close the gap on the domestic elite, keeping Gibson until 2028 is more than smart business. It is a statement about where they believe this team can go – and who they trust to lead them there.
