Ben Morris Leaves Glamorgan: Future as Young Seamer Uncertain

Glamorgan will part company with young seamer Ben Morris at the end of the season, drawing a line under a brief first-team career that hinted at more to come than it ultimately delivered.

The 22-year-old, born in Abergavenny, has been on the fringes of the county side, making a single County Championship appearance and five outings in the One Day Cup. His standout performance came in 2024, when he returned figures of 3-52 against Essex, a spell that suggested he might be edging closer to a regular role.

That breakthrough never quite arrived. His most recent first-team appearance came in August 2025, and since then opportunities have been scarce.

Morris has been a familiar figure in Welsh cricket circles, turning out for the successful Cardiff UCCE side and representing Wales National County, where his pace and height have made him a consistent option with the new ball.

Reflecting on his departure, Morris struck a measured tone. He said he had enjoyed his time with Glamorgan but believes he still has more to give the game, remaining open to fresh cricketing opportunities while also preparing to explore a career away from the sport.

His exit continues a period of quiet transition at the club. Morris becomes the second confirmed departure this year after 40-year-old stalwart Chris Cooke announced his retirement, removing both youth and experience from Glamorgan’s squad.

For Morris, the next move will define whether he is a promising seamer who slipped through the county net, or a late bloomer who finds his stage elsewhere.
