Asif Khan Receives 15-Month Ban for Doping Violation

One of UAE’s most recognisable batters, Asif Khan, has been ruled out of international cricket until the end of 2026 after accepting a 15‑month period of ineligibility for a doping violation.

The 34-year-old tested positive for a metabolite of mesterolone, a banned substance, in an out-of-competition test conducted on September 8, 2025. His suspension has been backdated to that date and will run until December 7, 2026.

A key figure in UAE’s white-ball set-up since his debut in 2022, Asif has featured in 38 ODIs and 56 T20Is, often anchoring the middle order and providing much-needed experience in a developing side. Now, that career is on hold.

The batter admitted a violation of Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping Code – the presence of a prohibited substance in a player’s sample – and accepted the sanction through a Case Resolution Agreement involving the International Cricket Council and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The punishment does not stop at time served on the sidelines. Under the ICC Anti-Doping Code, Asif’s individual results from September 8, 2025, up to the start of his provisional suspension on December 29, 2025, have been disqualified. That wipes out any runs, awards or statistical gains he made in that period, along with associated medals, points, prize money or prizes.

For UAE, it removes an established international from their plans for more than a year. For Asif, it draws a hard line under a costly mistake, with the clock now ticking towards December 2026 and the challenge of rebuilding a career once the ban is served.
