Alexander Zverev Secures Laver Cup Victory for Team Europe with Straight-Set Win Over Learner Tien

Team Europe entered Day 3 of the 2026 Laver Cup holding a narrow 7-5 lead. They needed two wins from four matches to secure the title. Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik got things started with a solid doubles victory against Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz, setting the stage for Alexander Zverev to potentially close out the tournament before teammates Carlos Alcaraz or Rafael Jodar had to step onto the London court that evening.

Facing off against Learner Tien, who had already shown his toughness by defeating Cobolli on Day 1, Zverev encountered a challenging match. Tien's skill in long rallies and precise shot-making kept Zverev on edge. Still, Zverev managed to win a tight first set 7-6. He then claimed the only service break in the second set and held serve to take it 6-3, sealing a straight-set victory.

This win marked another moment where Zverev acted as the decisive player for Team Europe, having clinched the title four times in his seven appearances at the event. His strong form this year includes Grand Slam titles at the French Open and US Open, and he remains a contender for the ATP World No. 1 ranking in what many see as a Hall of Fame-worthy season.

Standout Performances Across the Tournament

Jakub Mensik impressed throughout the Laver Cup, delivering key doubles victories on both Day 1 and Day 3. Known for his powerful serve and clutch play, Mensik also recently won the 2026 US Open mixed doubles alongside Karolina Muchova, who was part of the Czech team celebrating their victory in the 2026 WTA Billie Jean King Cup.

The Laver Cup continues to spark debate about its role in tennis, but its appeal lies in creating teams from usual rivals, allowing them to compete together in a unique atmosphere. The event draws high-profile fans including Roger Federer, the tournament’s namesake Rod Laver, and celebrities like Andy Murray, John McEnroe, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Anna Wintour.
