WTA Top 10 Updates After China Open: Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva See Ranking Shifts

The conclusion of the China Open in Beijing brought a reshuffling to the WTA top 10 rankings. Qinwen Zheng, the local favorite, captured the title by defeating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4 in the final of this WTA 1000 event. Zheng entered the tournament as a wildcard and stunned fans by overcoming the fourth seed Andreeva in a match lasting one hour and 42 minutes.

Zheng's impressive victory pushed her upwards in the WTA rankings. Alongside her, finalist Mirra Andreeva also climbed the ranks. On the other hand, American players Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula experienced slight drops in their positions after the latest update.

Ranking Changes and Key Players

Elena Rybakina began her reign as world number one at the China Open but suffered an early exit. Despite that, she holds onto the top spot. Aryna Sabalenka remains second, also after an early loss. The main shifts happened just below them:

  • Elina Svitolina moved up to sixth.
  • Karolina Muchova advanced to seventh.

Further Developments Ahead of Wuhan Open

Andreeva isn't the only player hitting new career heights; 18-year-old American Iva Jovic also climbed two spots to 11th. Both Zheng and Andreeva, however, will not compete in the upcoming Wuhan Open. Zheng withdrew due to a right shoulder injury, while Andreeva cited scheduling adjustments.

This leaves the Wuhan Open without many top contenders, including world number one Rybakina, defending champion Gauff, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Anisimova. The tournament’s highest seeds are now Sabalenka and Pegula. This event marks the final WTA 1000 tournament of the season.
