Queens Park Rangers’ bright start has caught the eye, but one seasoned observer is urging a touch of restraint.

Ian McCullough, a QPR supporter and journalist, sees clear signs of progress in the opening weeks of the season, particularly in the depth at Marti Cifuentes’ disposal.

“At Blackburn at the weekend, they won the game through the strength of the bench,” McCullough said, highlighting a decisive shift from last year’s struggles. Where QPR once looked threadbare, they now have genuine options waiting in reserve.

“They've got a real quality on the bench that they didn't have last season. In that kind of side the club has progressed,” he added, pointing to a squad that finally looks built to influence matches late on rather than simply hang on.

The caution arrives when the fixture list comes into view. QPR’s early opponents – Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton – are, in McCullough’s eyes, the sort of sides they should be putting away if they are serious about climbing the table.

“But as I keep saying with QPR, they've played three teams really that they should be beating - Blackburn, Portsmouth, Bolton. Had they lost any of those games, questions would be asked.”

For now, the questions are softer, framed around how far this new-found depth can take them once the calibre of opposition rises.
