Olivier Giroud Signals Possible Retirement After This Season

As he approaches his 40th birthday tomorrow, Olivier Giroud has dropped hints about ending his football career next summer. In a recent interview with L'Équipe, the 2018 World Cup winner shared that this season might be his last. "As a player, I think this is very likely my final season. That’s why I’m savoring every moment," he said. Currently, Giroud plays for Lille.

Two Decades of Football Excellence

Giroud started his professional journey at Grenoble in 2006, meaning he'll have dedicated 21 years to football by next year. Over this time, he became France’s top scorer ever, with 137 international appearances and 57 goals. Alongside his international success, he claimed multiple trophies at club level.

He won the French league title with Montpellier before moving to England. During his time at Arsenal and Chelsea, he lifted four FA Cups, the 2019 Europa League, and the 2021 Champions League. In July 2025, he returned to France, joining Lille—a move that looks set to be the final chapter in his playing career.
