Lamine Yamal on What Barcelona Must Do to Capture the Champions League

Lamine Yamal has expressed that Barcelona is not content with just a strong start to their season; their sights are set on loftier goals. The team has quickly become a standout contender this year, and Yamal believes they possess the talent and unity needed to fight for major trophies.

Challenges in the Champions League

The Champions League remains the toughest hurdle for Barcelona, where one slip-up can abruptly end their journey. Yamal pointed out that experience and a bit of luck can make a big difference when margins are tight.

"It all comes down to fate. The Champions League isn’t decided in a single match; you can play badly and lose the title. So you need luck, along with experience, and these things build up year after year," he said.

While the team can control how well they play, knockout rounds often hinge on tiny moments—injuries, finishing chances, and handling pressure. Yet, Yamal’s ambition remains undeterred.

"I hope luck is on our side this year. We’re playing to win the title; we’re not here just for a stroll. We want to win and bring the trophy back to Barcelona, and God willing, we’ll achieve victory this year."

Different Strengths in Attack: Lewandowski and Raphinha

When asked about comparing Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, Yamal refused to pick a favorite, instead highlighting how their contrasting skills help the squad.

"I don’t think it’s a question of better or worse. The team adapts to different players, and each player has different strengths. Robert, for example, stands out for his ability to finish attacking moves, whilst Raphinha is a great passer. Each has their own strengths and skills, and every player stands out for what they do."

Building Momentum Through Unity

Yamal also praised the squad’s growth and chemistry, noting how newcomers have integrated smoothly while existing players have deepened their understanding with one another.

"We’re in great form at the moment and keen to keep playing entertaining and exciting football. I think there’s been a step up in standard, performance, and quality, both because of the new players who have settled in well and because of the chemistry between the established players, which is growing stronger by the day."

He emphasized the collective mindset driving the team forward.

"We all play with the same mindset – a winning mindset – and we’ll always do what we believe is best for the team. We’re one big family within the squad, and our aim is always to win."
