Katie Taylor's Farewell Fight with Westlife at Croke Park

Katie Taylor’s last walk to the ring will come with a soundtrack Ireland knows by heart.

Westlife have been confirmed as the headline performers for Taylor’s farewell fight at Croke Park this Saturday, adding a layer of pop royalty to what is already shaping up as one of the great sporting nights the stadium has ever staged.

The Irish group will perform as part of the pre-fight and in-arena entertainment on an evening built around Taylor’s final professional bout and an emotional last ring walk for the Bray icon. The 38-year-old will face undefeated French fighter Flora Pili in front of more than 80,000 fans, chasing the perfect ending to a storied career as a three-time undisputed world champion.

“She has inspired the whole country and we couldn’t be prouder to perform for her at Croke Park, a stadium that also means so much to us,” the group said.

For Westlife, the occasion carries its own weight. The band spoke of being “so honoured” to be asked by Taylor to share the stage on such a night, a sentiment that cuts both ways for two acts who have spent decades at the centre of Irish popular culture.

Few music acts know Croke Park like they do. Westlife have previously sold out six shows at the Dublin arena, turning the stadium into their own chorus line, night after night. Their return this weekend drops them into a very different kind of main event, but one every bit as steeped in emotion.

The numbers behind them are as heavy as any title belt: more than 55 million records sold worldwide, 16 Irish No.1 singles, 14 UK chart-toppers. Songs like Flying Without Wings, Queen of My Heart and You Raise Me Up have long since moved from hits to anthems, the kind of tracks that can turn a ring walk into a national moment.

Their appearance on Saturday comes just days before another milestone. On 10 September, Westlife begin a record-breaking 13-night residency at Dublin’s 3Arena as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations, a run that underlines their enduring pull across generations.

Promoters are expected to confirm further entertainment acts for the Croke Park card later this week, adding more colour around a fight that needs little help in selling its significance.

For those not lucky enough to be inside the stadium, Katie Taylor v Flora Pili will be shown live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player, with live radio commentary on RTÉ 2FM. The event will also go out worldwide on DAZN, beaming Taylor’s final steps and Westlife’s familiar harmonies far beyond Dublin 3.
