Jannik Sinner Set for ATP 500 Return in Beijing as Novak Djokovic Joins Field
Jannik Sinner is preparing to make his comeback to competitive tennis at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. The Italian, who has been sidelined since winning Wimbledon in July due to a right knee injury, plans to compete in the China Open starting September 30.
Sinner missed the entire North American hard-court season, including the US Open, where he was runner-up in 2025. After over two months away from competition, he resumed training in Monte Carlo earlier this month and is now targeting Beijing for his first match back.
Defending Champion Eyes Title Defense
The China Open holds special significance for Sinner. He has reached the final in all three of his appearances there and won the title twice, in 2023 and 2025. Defending his championship will be a priority before moving on to the Shanghai Masters beginning October 7.
His absence during the North American swing created an opportunity for Alexander Zverev to challenge his top ranking position. Now, Sinner looks to reassert himself as a leading force on tour.
Novak Djokovic Boosts Star Power at China Open
Adding excitement to the event, Novak Djokovic will also compete in Beijing for the first time since 2015. The 24-time Grand Slam winner holds an unblemished 29-0 record at this tournament and boasts six China Open titles.
Djokovic’s return follows a surprising early exit at the US Open, where he lost in the first round to Mariano Navone. He aims to regain momentum during the Asian leg of the season.
