Zinedine Zidane Plans Tactical Adjustments for France Ahead of Key Belgium Match
Zinedine Zidane, the manager of France, has confirmed plans to make thoughtful changes to his starting eleven as Les Bleus prepare for an important Nations League encounter against Belgium. The French coach faces challenges due to the absence of key players but aims to keep France on top of Group A1.
France Aims to Maintain Group Lead
After a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Italy at the Stade de France, and following wins over Turkey and Belgium, France holds a strong position heading into this fixture. Currently, they lead Group A1 in the UEFA Nations League, and Zidane is intent on preserving that standing.
Belgium, sitting second with six points, bounced back from a 1-0 loss to France in Brussels by defeating Turkey 3-0. This upcoming match is a critical challenge for Zidane’s squad as they look to confirm their dominance in the group.
Squad Changes Due to Absences
With captain Kylian Mbappe sidelined by a knee injury sustained during the Turkey game and defender Dayot Upamecano suspended after receiving a red card against Italy, Zidane must rethink his tactical setup. Despite these setbacks, he trusts his squad's depth and is ready to rotate players carefully.
"There will be changes, that's for sure. It is our fourth match, and we can’t just do anything," Zidane told L’Equipe. "We will make smart changes, and above all, we will do it to be competitive."
Fostering Competition and Team Spirit
Zidane views rotation as more than just resting players. He believes it strengthens team unity and keeps everyone motivated. Giving different players chances reflects the commitment and competition within the national team.
"It is to show that we are all involved and that all the players are committed to this team, to demonstrate that there is a lot of competition within the French national team," he explained. "The demands are the same, but the work with the national team differs from that at club level. I enjoyed the daily work, and today I take on a different role, but my desire to work in harmony with my team has not changed."
He expressed satisfaction with the time spent with the squad during this international break and noted some frustration about the period ending soon. Zidane emphasized the importance of finishing strong.
Focus on Securing Knockout Stage Spot
France currently tops Group A1 with seven points. A win against Belgium would bring them significantly closer to advancing to the knockout rounds of the Nations League. This match marks the end of the international break for Zidane’s team, who will next return to action in November.
