Tottenham Target Tosin Adarabioyo as Danso Pushes for Exit

Tottenham are scrambling to reshape their defence in the final stretch of the transfer window, with a move for Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo now firmly on the table, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have already poured serious money into this summer’s rebuild. Any late additions were always likely to depend on outgoings. That moment has arrived.

Danso wants out – and he’s not alone

Inside the club, the mood music has changed. Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that three players have come to him asking to leave, including Kevin Danso.

“He said too many times [Richarlison] he wants to leave. Danso came to me two days ago, and he said he wants to leave, and Pape Sarr, the same, but he suffer[ed] a small injury, but he is almost ready to train.”

Those conversations have forced Tottenham’s hand. With Danso pushing for a move and interest building from fellow Premier League side Sunderland, Spurs are preparing for life without the defender in the coming days.

They are not standing still. The search for a replacement at centre-back is already under way.

Tosin talks open as Spurs race the clock

Romano reports that Chelsea are working on a deal involving Tosin, a move that could clear the way for Danso’s departure. For Tottenham, the Chelsea defender is now a “concrete possibility”.

The key detail is still unresolved: loan or permanent. Both options are being considered, with the clock ticking loudly over north London.

One major question lingers over the negotiations. Would Chelsea really sell to Tottenham? On the face of it, that is never straightforward. Yet Spurs would not be this deep into discussions without some encouragement from across the capital.

Time, though, is their enemy. Any agreement for Tosin has to dovetail perfectly with Danso’s exit. Two defensive deals, one narrow window.

Does Tosin fit what Spurs actually need?

On the pitch, the move is not without doubt. Tosin has struggled to nail down a regular starting place at Chelsea. At this stage of his career, his next club needs to give him minutes, not just a shirt number.

Breaking into Tottenham’s back line will not be simple. Micky van de Ven, Marcos Senesi and Jan-Paul van Hecke already form the core of De Zerbi’s central defensive options. Tosin would arrive as cover first, contender second.

That is where the debate starts. Would Spurs be better served by a more versatile defender, someone who can slide across the back line and offer different shapes and solutions? Or do they simply need another specialist centre-back to protect themselves against injuries and exits?

From Chelsea’s perspective, letting Tosin go would ease congestion and bring clarity to their own defensive hierarchy. For Tottenham, it would be about insurance – and perhaps a small gamble on untapped potential.

After the capture of Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, the feeling around the club is that any final business will be at the defensive end of the pitch. All signs point to a centre-back as the last piece.

Whether that piece is Tosin Adarabioyo, and whether Kevin Danso gets the move he wants, will be decided in a matter of days – and possibly hours – as Tottenham try to hold their nerve in a window that refuses to slow down.
