Sparta Rotterdam Secures Isaac Babadi on Loan from PSV

Sparta Rotterdam are on the verge of securing Isaac Babadi on loan from PSV, a late-window move that could give the gifted midfielder the minutes he has been starved of in Eindhoven.

The 21-year-old has been on the fringes at the Philips Stadion, unable to carve out a regular role under Peter Bosz. PSV have opened the door, and Sparta are ready to walk through it.

Earlier this week, Voetbal International reported that both Fortuna Sittard and Sparta had moved for Babadi. Fortuna were in the frame, but Sparta have accelerated and now look set to win the race, according to Eindhovens Dagblad.

This deal stands on its own. It is not part of the recent transfer that saw Ayoni Santos leave Sparta for PSV, even if the timing invites easy comparisons. Sparta identified Babadi as an opportunity and moved accordingly.

Financially, the structure reflects that. The Rotterdam club will not take on the full salary package, but will cover part of his wages, a compromise that suits all sides with the clock ticking on Deadline Day. The official announcement is expected later today.

Babadi’s situation at PSV explains the urgency. Under contract until mid-2028, he has already made 35 official appearances for the first team, scoring three goals and adding one assist. Those numbers hint at potential, not yet at fulfilment.

Right now, though, he barely figures in Bosz’s plans. His last appearance for PSV’s first team dates back to May of last year, a stark marker of how far he has slipped down the pecking order.

That absence is also tied to his spell away from Eindhoven. Babadi spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp FC, where he featured 21 times in official matches. The games came, but the breakthrough did not quite follow.

Sparta now offer something different: a platform in the Eredivisie, a club willing to hand him responsibility in a side that constantly punches above its weight.

If the move is finalised as expected, Babadi will arrive with something to prove — to PSV, to Sparta, and perhaps most of all to himself.
