The Brazilian giants have officially cleared their FIFA transfer embargo after paying off a R$12 million (£1.7m/$2.3m) debt owed to Monaco for midfielder Jean Lucas, a legacy bill that had frozen their transfer activity and tightened the noose around an already fragile squad.

NR Sports, the agency that manages Neymar’s image rights, delivered a crucial cash injection that allowed Santos to settle the overdue payment and satisfy FIFA. In return, the club and the agency will now share control over the negotiation and commercialisation of unallocated kit sponsorship space.

Santos confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, declaring the ban lifted and the club “once again clear to operate in the transfer market”. They underlined that the operation only became viable thanks to the immediate support from NR Sports and the agreement to jointly exploit remaining shirt inventory.

It is a financial sticking plaster on a much larger wound. The club still wrestles with an estimated total debt of around £13m, but this move buys time, flexibility, and—crucially—options.
