PSG Seeks First Ligue 1 Win Against Lille with Bold Line-up Changes

Paris Saint-Germain head north on Friday night still searching for their first Ligue 1 win of the season, and Luis Enrique is ready to shake the tree.

A 2-2 draw at home to Rennes on the opening weekend left a flat taste in the mouth at the Parc des Princes. Defensive lapses, a lack of control in midfield, and an attack that only truly sparked late on have pushed the coach toward a bolder reshuffle for the trip to Lille.

This will not be a token tweak. It looks like four changes and a very different feel.

Defence re-drawn

Nuno Mendes remains sidelined, so there is no return for PSG’s dynamic left-back. Even so, that flank will not look the same. Lucas Hernández is expected to make way, with Lucas Digne stepping in on the left. A subtle change on paper, but a clear message: more balance, more defensive security, and cleaner delivery from deep.

On the opposite side, Luis Enrique is set to make his most intriguing move. Warren Zaïre-Emery, the teenager who has already shown he can dominate the middle of the pitch, is poised to start as an unorthodox right-back in place of Achraf Hakimi.

It is a brave call. Hakimi brings width, pace, and a constant threat in the final third. Zaïre-Emery offers something different: control in build-up, an extra midfielder when PSG have the ball, and the energy to step inside and press. If it works, Lille will find themselves suffocated in the channels they usually exploit.

Between them, Marquinhos and Willian Pacho are expected to continue at the heart of defence, tasked with steadying a back line that looked far too open against Rennes. The structure around them, though, will be new.

Midfield muscle and a statement up front

The changes do not stop at the back. In midfield, Lucas Beraldo is in line to replace Vitinha. That switch hints at a desire for more bite and physical presence in the centre, alongside João Neves and Fabián Ruiz. Vitinha’s subtle creativity gives way to Beraldo’s more robust profile, a sign that PSG expect a battle in the middle at Lille.

Higher up the pitch, the headline is clear: Ferran Torres has played his way into the starting XI.

Rested will be Ousmane Dembélé, with the champions keen to manage his workload early in the season. Torres, who came off the bench to score twice and salvage a point against Rennes, is set to be rewarded with his full debut. It is exactly the kind of selection that keeps a dressing room sharp: produce, and you play.

Torres should join Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in a fluid front three, with plenty of movement between the lines and an emphasis on interchanging positions. If Dembélé brings chaos and one-on-one brilliance, this trio leans more toward combination play and sharp runs off the ball.

Behind them, the double pivot of João Neves and Fabián Ruiz will be asked to dictate tempo, with Beraldo adding steel and Zaïre-Emery stepping inside to overload midfield when PSG have possession. On paper, it is a side built to control the game rather than simply react to it.

A different-looking PSG

All of that leaves a likely XI that reads:

It is a team that carries risk. A teenage midfielder at right-back, a reshaped left flank, and a new-look attack away to one of the league’s most awkward opponents is not the conservative route.

But after dropping points on opening night, and with expectations unchanged, PSG do not travel to Lille to feel their way into the season. They go chasing a first win, with a line-up that makes one thing clear: Luis Enrique would rather force the issue than wait for the campaign to come to him.
