Pedro Neto Commends Portugal's Defensive Strength in Nations League Triumph Over Norway

Pedro Neto praised Portugal’s solid defensive performance after Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos secured a vital 2-1 win against Norway in the UEFA Nations League.

Portugal Holds Firm at Ullevaal Stadium

Under coach Jorge Jesus, Portugal maintained their impressive run with a gritty 2-1 victory away to Norway. Goals from Felix and Ramos put the visitors three points clear atop Group A4, marking their second straight win under Jesus and strengthening their position as group leaders.

Neto Praises Team’s Defensive Grit

The 26-year-old winger expressed pride in the team’s collective defensive effort in Oslo. He emphasized that enduring the physical challenge posed by the hosts demanded unwavering focus throughout the match.

Speaking to Sport TV, Neto said they had to withstand intense pressure, especially in the first half’s final moments. He credited Portugal’s ability to resist Norway’s aggressive pressing to the squad’s growing tactical maturity on the international stage.

“It was a very tough match against a team with a lot of quality, top-class players and high intensity. They pressed very high up the pitch with great intensity and we did well. At times, they managed to take control a little more - perhaps towards the end of the first half - but we were resilient,” Neto explained.

Swift Response After Haaland’s Equalizer

The pivotal moment came shortly after Erling Haaland leveled the score for Norway. Portugal demonstrated strong character, reclaiming the lead through Ramos just three minutes after conceding.

Neto views this quick comeback as an ideal reaction to setbacks in high-pressure matches. He stated:

“It’s one of the best ways to react to conceding. Goncalo Ramos’ goal came straight after that. The team, once again, managed to stay in the game and defended well.”

He added that the team remained solid defensively, though there were moments when they could have controlled possession better. Facing a team with such intensity made controlling the match difficult, but both defense and offense contributed well to the overall performance.

Next Up: Denmark Clash

Portugal now aims to keep their unbeaten streak intact in Group A4 when they meet Denmark in their final match of the current international window. Securing another win would strengthen their lead at the top of the standings.

Norway, after this narrow home defeat, will look to recover quickly as they prepare to face Wales later this week.
