Nottingham Forest Sign Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace

Nottingham Forest have landed Daniel Muñoz from Crystal Palace in a deal worth up to £22m, prising away one of last season’s most influential right wing-backs and handing Oliver Glasner a familiar lieutenant at the City Ground.

The Colombia international signs a three-year contract with an option for a fourth, reuniting with the head coach who helped turn him into a key figure in south London. Forest get energy, aggression and end-product down the right. Glasner gets a player who already speaks his footballing language.

Palace cash in, Forest reload

Palace opened the exit door the moment they secured Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise, a move that gave them cover on the flank and a healthy profit on Muñoz, who arrived from Genk for £8.5m in January 2024.

In a short space of time, Muñoz became central to Palace’s identity, driving their run to Conference League and FA Cup glory. His departure is not a fringe decision. It’s a calculated cash-in on a 30-year-old who had just delivered on the biggest stages of the club’s recent history.

Forest, meanwhile, are reshaping their squad with clear intent. Muñoz is not a speculative signing. He’s a plug-and-play starter for a side that wants to attack from wide areas and push wing-backs high.

Henderson off-limits as Palace draw the line

The Muñoz deal will be the last bit of business between the clubs this window. Palace have made that plain.

Forest tested the water with a move for Palace captain and goalkeeper Dean Henderson, but the response from Selhurst Park has been unequivocal: he is not leaving before the deadline. No negotiations, no late compromise. Palace intend to protect their core and back new head coach Pierre Sage with stability as the clock winds down on the window.

Forest eye Jacob Murphy, Kalimuendo talks progress

The hunt for attacking options at Forest is not over. With Omari Hutchinson heading to AC Milan, they are in the market for forwards and Jacob Murphy has emerged as a live target.

Forest’s interest in the Newcastle winger dates back earlier in the window, with Everton also among the admirers. Newcastle have yet to receive a formal approach, but the sense around the deal is clear: Forest like Murphy, and Newcastle are themselves scouring the market for fresh attacking options, including Lille’s Matias Fernandes Pardo and Stuttgart’s Bilal El Khannouss.

While they weigh up Murphy, Forest are deep in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over Arnaud Kalimuendo. The French striker spent the second half of last season on loan with the Bundesliga side, and Frankfurt want him back, again on loan, this time potentially with an option to buy.

Kalimuendo’s omission from Forest’s matchday 18 in the 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Saturday underlined his uncertain status. The message is obvious: his future is being negotiated elsewhere.

One avenue has already closed. A proposed move for Harrison Armstrong from Everton has collapsed, with the Everton board unanimous in its decision to reject Forest’s approach and keep the player.

Palace juggling arrivals, Sarr tension and Chelsea’s long game

At Selhurst Park, the Muñoz sale is just one thread in a complicated end to the window.

Crystal Palace are close to an agreement with Atalanta for Honest Ahanor on a season-long loan. The deal carries an unusual twist: Ahanor is expected to join Chelsea permanently next summer, with the Italian club selling directly to Stamford Bridge for around £40m. Because Axel Disasi is already on loan at Palace from Chelsea, Ahanor cannot be loaned via Chelsea, forcing this three-club arrangement.

While that move edges forward, tension surrounds Ismaila Sarr. The Senegal international wants out before the deadline, and Liverpool have made an approach in the past week as they assess several attacking options, including Yankuba Minteh at Brighton.

Palace, though, are holding their ground. Sarr is under contract until 2029 and the club insist he is not for sale, despite his desire to move and his absence from the first two games of the season through injury.

The window shuts at 11pm on Tuesday. Forest have their new wing-back. Palace have their profit and a plan. The question now is who blinks first in the final hours, and which of these two squads looks very different when the shutters finally come down.
