Lionel Messi’s Current Inter Miami Streak Rivals His Best Barcelona Run

At 39, Lionel Messi is experiencing one of the most impressive phases in his career. He has scored or assisted in each of his last 14 games across all competitions for club and country. This streak began after his remarkable 2026 World Cup performance with Argentina and continued upon his return to Inter Miami.

Although Miami might not seem as dominant as during their 2025 MLS Cup-winning season, with Messi performing at this level, they remain serious contenders to win the title again. He continues to lead Major League Soccer as its top player and recently became the first in league history to tally 15 or more assists in three consecutive seasons.

Comparing This to Messi’s Peak Barcelona Run

This 14-game streak is the second-longest goal involvement run in Messi’s career, behind a 17-game stretch in early 2011 while playing for Barcelona under Pep Guardiola.

Back then, a 23-year-old Messi started 2011 by scoring or assisting in 16 consecutive matches for Barça and also had a goal and assist against Portugal in international fixtures, totaling 17 straight games with goal contributions from January 5 to March 8, 2011. In that period, he scored 19 goals and made 10 assists.

The 2010-11 season was extraordinary for Messi: he ended with 53 goals and 27 assists, helping Barcelona secure La Liga and their second Champions League title during Guardiola’s leadership.
