Harry Kane Hopes to Learn Ballon d'Or Winner Before Ceremony as He Stays Composed
Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, has revealed he would like to find out the Ballon d'Or winner before Monday evening's ceremony in London. Despite leading the betting odds for the prestigious individual award, Kane remains unaware of the result.
Kane Awaits Historic Award Announcement
The 33-year-old England captain is trying to keep calm ahead of the 20:00 UK time event. If successful, Kane would be the first English player to win since Michael Owen in 2001. His impressive record includes 61 goals in 51 club matches last season and a run to the World Cup semi-finals. The shortlist also includes Lamine Yamal from Barcelona and Lionel Messi of Inter Miami.
Kane Continues Strong Scoring Run in Europe
On Wednesday, Kane assisted Alphonso Davies and scored a penalty in a 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal, bringing his season tally to 10 goals in 11 games. His goal streak now spans 10 consecutive European matches, one shy of Cristiano Ronaldo's record.
"They want everyone to go, all the big names there and there will be more people watching if they don’t know," Kane said. "From my point of view, I’d love to know just to avoid waiting all night. But it’s their decision; I can’t control that. We’ll have to enjoy it and try not to stress too much."
Kane Blocks Out Speculation Ahead of Ceremony
France Football changed its rules in 2024 to stop revealing winners early after a leak caused a Real Madrid boycott when Vinicius Junior lost to Rodri. Kane tries to ignore rumors and focus on upcoming matches instead.
"I try not to think about it. There are always rumors flying around and you try to stay away from it. We have important games today and another on Sunday before Monday’s event, so that’s where my focus is," Kane added. "Of course, I’ll try to enjoy Monday night as much as possible. It’s a big occasion; we’ll have to wait and see."
