Liverpool Eye January Moves for Lamine Camara and Tyrick Mitchell
Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with insiders describing a “real possibility” that Anfield becomes his next stop – and a raid on Crystal Palace for Tyrick Mitchell is also on the table.
Liverpool circle as Camara saga reignites
Camara’s name has already lit up one transfer window. On deadline day, he was on the brink of joining Chelsea, only for Monaco to pull the plug in the final hours. The 22-year-old had held lengthy talks with the London club about his role and future, and had effectively given the green light to a Stamford Bridge move.
Chelsea’s interest has not gone away. But this time they are not alone.
Liverpool are understood to have discussed Camara internally and, according to Football Insider, have already “held talks” over a potential January deal. The price has climbed. Where Chelsea thought they had an agreement around the €55m (£47m, $63m) mark, any bidder in the winter window is now expected to come closer to €70m (£60m, $81m).
“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes,” Mick Brown told Football Insider, stressing that Liverpool are monitoring his performances in Ligue 1 and sense that a deal is there to be done after the late collapse of his Chelsea switch.
The player’s camp is clearly open for business. His agent has been vocal about pushing for a move, a stance that only fuels the sense that January could finally deliver the transfer that slipped away in September.
If Liverpool do decide to accelerate, they will not just be wrestling with Monaco’s valuation. They will be stepping directly into a battle with a Premier League rival that already thought it had Camara in its grasp.
Left-back question draws Mitchell into the frame
While midfield remains a priority area, Liverpool are also assessing their options at left-back, with the position quietly turning into a live issue.
Milos Kerkez and Kostas Tsimikas are the current senior choices. Kerkez has yet to convince over a sustained period, his form under scrutiny. Tsimikas, out of contract at the end of the season and still on the fringes, faces an uncertain future.
That combination has pushed Liverpool into the same market as Manchester United.
Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell, long admired for his consistency and linked with a move to Old Trafford, is now being seriously considered by Liverpool, according to another update from Brown.
“Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell,” he said. For any side hunting a Premier League-ready left-back, Mitchell’s reliability stands out. Week after week he delivers for Palace, solid in his defensive work and increasingly confident going forward.
Brown described him as a “top, top player” and pointed directly at Liverpool’s situation, highlighting the questions around Kerkez’s consistency. Chelsea, too, are name-checked as a club that could be tempted by a deal for a proven domestic performer without an eye-watering fee.
Mitchell ticks boxes for all of them: homegrown, durable, tactically disciplined, and still with room to grow. That profile rarely comes cheap, but it rarely goes unnoticed either.
So Liverpool’s January could be defined on two fronts. A high-stakes midfield battle with Chelsea for Camara, and a looming tug-of-war with Manchester United – and perhaps Chelsea again – for Mitchell. How aggressively they choose to play those hands will say plenty about where this squad is heading next.
