Juventus Signs Nick Woltemade on Season-Long Loan

Juventus have struck a deal to take Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade on a season-long loan, landing the German just before the window slams shut.

The 24-year-old, signed by Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025, is expected in Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m fee. The agreement is a straight loan: no option, no obligation, no strings beyond the season.

For Juventus, it is a decisive move at the end of a search that had ranged across Europe. They wanted a forward, and they wanted one quickly. With Jonathan David now poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan, the Turin hierarchy turned their attention elsewhere and recalibrated their shortlist.

Joshua Zirkzee was a serious candidate. Talks with Manchester United progressed while his proposed move to Fiorentina stalled. The numbers, though, never quite aligned. United pushed for an obligation-to-buy clause as part of any loan, a condition Juventus were unwilling to accept.

So they pivoted.

Woltemade, younger, cheaper and more flexible in the deal structure, emerged as the better fit. Juventus get a forward they believe suits their plans without being locked into a future fee. It is smart business in a market where every clause carries weight.

The move comes at an intriguing moment in Woltemade’s Newcastle career. He arrived as a statement signing, a £69m club-record addition meant to spearhead a new era. Under new manager Matthias Jaissle, though, his start has been stop–start. Across the first three games of the season, he has made the starting XI just once.

Even so, his impact has not disappeared. On Saturday, he came off the bench at Tottenham Hotspur and helped turn a tight game, setting up Yoane Wissa’s goal in a 2-0 win. It was a reminder of his quality, just as his immediate future was being decided behind the scenes.

Newcastle, for their part, had already begun to reshape their attack. BBC Sport had reported that a move for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo would likely open the door for Woltemade’s exit. That domino has now fallen. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, clearing the path for the German’s departure.

So Woltemade heads for Serie A, Juventus get their forward, and Newcastle roll into the season with a remodelled front line. The question now is simple: who will make more of the opportunity this shuffle has created?
