England Women’s 2026 Schedule: Fixtures, Results, and Viewing Guide

The England women's national football team entered 2025 focused on one goal: defending their European Championship title. After winning the 2022 Euros by defeating Spain on penalties, they repeated their success in Switzerland, overcoming tough challenges like a penalty shootout against Sweden in the quarter-finals and extra time victory over Italy in the semis. This marked revenge for their loss to Spain in the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.

In 2026, the Lionesses aimed to top their 2027 Women’s World Cup qualifying group, again facing Spain. Only the group winner qualified directly for the tournament in Brazil; the rest had to go through play-offs. Spain turned the tables this time, beating England and sending Sarina Wiegman’s team into the play-offs scheduled for late 2026.

England’s 2026 Results

England started their 2027 World Cup qualifying strongly, winning their first four matches including a home victory over Spain at Wembley. Sitting first in the group with two games left, they needed just a draw away against Spain on June 5 to secure automatic qualification.

Things went badly in Mallorca, where England suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Spain—their worst loss in 17 years under Wiegman’s leadership. Spain climbed to the top of the group, and England’s fate depended on Iceland. But Iceland lost 6-1 to Spain, making England’s win over Ukraine meaningless and forcing the Lionesses into the play-offs.

Upcoming Fixtures for England Women in 2026

Now, England faces two rounds of play-offs, both two-legged ties. The first round took place in October, where England beat Greece (ranked 59th globally) to advance. Next up is Ukraine, whom they have already defeated twice this year. The winner of this tie will qualify for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

If England qualifies, the group stage draw will be held on December 11.
