Endrick Open to January Exit After Leading Real Madrid's Dramatic 4-3 Champions League Win Over Roma
Endrick Hints at Possible January Departure Despite Heroics
Endrick has admitted that leaving Real Madrid in the January transfer window remains a possibility, even after coming off the bench to spark a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory against Roma in the Champions League.
The young Brazilian forward scored a vital late equaliser in Rome but confessed his long-term future at the club is still unclear.
Substitute Impact Turns Match Around
Thrown on for Vinicius Junior after 58 minutes with Madrid trailing 3-1 thanks to Marten de Roon’s opener and a Donyell Malen double, Endrick shifted the momentum entirely. His saved header led to Carlos Esposito’s 83rd-minute goal, giving Madrid a lifeline before Endrick himself nodded in Arda Guler’s corner, setting up Antonio Rudiger’s stoppage-time winner.
Unexpected Early Call-Up Brings Hunger
Before his crucial cameo on a night when Kylian Mbappe became the youngest player to reach 100 Champions League appearances at 27, Endrick had only made one competitive appearance all season.
“I’m very happy. It was a very difficult match. I was on the bench, just thanking God to be here. When the boss called me, I was actually surprised because it was so early. I hadn’t played here for a long time and I had so much hunger. That’s what I brought, and I did well,” Endrick said after the game.
He also shared tactical guidance from manager Jose Mourinho in an interview with TNT Sports Brasil: “He told me to go out and enjoy myself, and to mark who I had to mark, which was their number three. That’s exactly what I did in the game.”
Future Remains Uncertain Amid Transfer Speculation
After a loan spell at Lyon, Endrick is under contract at the Bernabeu until June 2030. Serie A clubs AC Milan and Roma have shown interest, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and the board oppose any early exit, with Mourinho eager to give the youngster more first-team chances.
“I take it day by day. If I have to leave in January, I’ll leave; if I have to stay, I’ll stay. I will do whatever God puts in my heart. I’m very grateful to Mourinho. He is one of the first coaches who has genuinely spoken to me. I trust him with open arms. While I’m here, my job isn’t to play for the manager to win, but for Real Madrid. But because of everything he is doing for me, I’m going to fight for him and for Real,” Endrick explained.
Mourinho dismissed talk of a winter departure before the Roma match:
“Forget it, forget it. Forget any interested clubs. They had better sit down, otherwise they will get tired waiting. He is a player I love, with incredible potential. He is very important to us. Anyone interested in him will have a serious fight on their hands with me, because I believe he doesn’t need to go out on loan and will achieve tremendous success here.”
Opportunity Opens With Vinicius Suspension
Endrick’s chance to secure a regular starting spot has grown following Vinicius Junior’s four-match domestic ban after a red card against Villarreal. The 20-year-old could start when Madrid face Sevilla on October 18 and again for their home European clash with RB Leipzig three days later. His scoring instincts will be key as Los Blancos travel to face rivals Barcelona in El Clasico on October 24.
