Cavan GAA Investigates Fire at Kingspan Breffni Park

Cavan GAA has launched an investigation after a fire broke out in the kitchen area of Kingspan Breffni Park in the early hours of Friday morning, leaving the county’s flagship ground without power or water and out of action for the weekend.

The blaze, which occurred after midnight, drew an emergency response from the fire brigade, who attended the stadium and extinguished the flames. No one was present at the ground at the time, and there were no injuries reported.

Early indications suggest the damage has been largely contained to the kitchen section of the venue, but assessors spent Friday examining both the extent of the destruction and the cause of the fire. Until that work is completed, the stadium remains effectively shut down.

Upcoming Fixtures

Kingspan Breffni had hosted Crosserlough’s win over Laragh on Thursday night in the Cavan senior club football championship, with the ground set for a busy run of fixtures this weekend. Ramor v Ballyhaise, Arva v Cavan Gaels, Cuchlainns v Kingscourt, Castlerahan v Gowna, and Killygarry v Mullahoran were all scheduled for the Breffni turf.

Those ties will now move to alternative venues, forcing a late reshuffle of the county’s SFC programme and leaving clubs, players, and supporters adjusting plans on the fly.

In a statement, Cavan GAA confirmed the venue’s temporary closure: “Due to a major incident at Kingspan Breffni overnight, the venue is out of commission for the weekend. Thankfully nobody was injured but currently no power or water in the stadium. Further details will be shared once the full extent of the damage has been assessed. Thank you for your understanding.”

For now, the lights are off at Kingspan Breffni, and a ground that usually hums with championship noise instead waits in silence while Cavan GAA counts the cost.
