Carrick Faces Transfer Questions as Rashford and Zirkzee Futures Diverge

He will not get that luxury on Friday.

With Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford both in the headlines, the Manchester United head coach is certain to be pressed on plans he would rather keep behind the doors at Carrington.

Rashford steady amid outside noise

Rashford, linked again with Fenerbahce, remains at the centre of speculation he did little to invite. The message from inside United and around the player has barely shifted for a month: he is expected to stay this season. That stance has not changed.

His football is starting to back that up. In the defeat at Hull City last week, Rashford came off the bench at half-time and was one of United’s brighter performers. Sharp, direct, involved. Not a man playing as if his bags are packed.

That display has pushed him firmly into contention to start against Ipswich at Old Trafford on Sunday. For all the noise from Turkey, the more important conversation for Rashford is whether his name is on Carrick’s teamsheet.

Zirkzee situation more fluid

Zirkzee is a different case entirely.

Interest from Serie A has hovered all summer and now Fiorentina have stepped forward with a proposal built around a loan. That suits the Italians. It does not quite suit United.

The club’s preference is clear: a permanent sale, or at the very least a loan that carries an obligation to buy. A clean decision, not a maybe.

What happens next rests with the rest of Italy. Several clubs have tracked the Netherlands forward in recent months. The question now is whether any of them turn admiration into a concrete bid that matches United’s terms.

Carrick will sit down in front of the cameras later on Friday and try to keep the focus on Ipswich, on shape, on intensity, on performance. The questions will keep circling back to Rashford and Zirkzee.

How much of the real plan he is willing to reveal, though, is another matter entirely.
