Burton Albion Signs Caylan Vickers from Brighton

Burton Albion have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the signing of winger Caylan Vickers from Premier League side Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old has committed to a two-year contract at the Pirelli Stadium, with the Brewers holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. It is a deal that gives Burton both immediate impact and room for growth.

Vickers arrives with something that matters in League One: know-how. Last season he went through the grind with loan spells at Barnsley and Wigan Athletic, learning the division’s tempo, its physical demands, its unforgiving schedule. He will not need a map of the fixtures list or an introduction to the style of football.

His route here has not been straightforward. Vickers came through at Reading, breaking into the professional scene before earning a move to Brighton. The Seagulls saw enough potential to bring him into a Premier League environment, but he never made a first-team appearance on the south coast. Now comes the chance to turn promise into production.

"He's an attacking player who will excite our supporters whilst adding goals and assists to the team," said Burton head coach Gary Bowyer. "Having played at this level already, he arrives ready to contribute and we look forward to seeing how he continues to develop with us."

It is a clear statement of intent. Burton want more pace, more direct running, more end product from wide areas. Vickers has been recruited to supply exactly that.

The timing is no accident either. Burton are at home to AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening, and the Pirelli crowd will be eager for a first glimpse of their new winger.
