Vincent Kompany Hospitalized After Training Collapse

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany has been hospitalized after collapsing in the aftermath of a training session on Friday, casting a shadow over the club’s preparations for the weekend.

The 40-year-old was watching over a session when he went down, Bayern confirmed. Medical staff reacted quickly and Kompany was taken to hospital, where he is now undergoing detailed examinations and remains under medical supervision.

In a club statement, Bayern said his coaching team will take charge of training and all match-related duties while he recovers. The message was clear: the dugout can wait.

“Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority,” Eberl said. “We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly. Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs.”

Sporting director Max Eberl underlined that stance, stressing that Kompany will be given “all the time he needs” to return.

The incident comes at the end of a draining week for the Belgian. Bayern had already revealed that Kompany was battling a viral infection, which kept him out of a training session and a press conference on Tuesday. Even so, he was back on the touchline on Wednesday night for the 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League, driving his team through a tense contest.

After that game, Kompany admitted he had tried to push through the illness and had ignored what his body was telling him. Two days later, those warnings caught up with him.

Bayern now move toward Sunday’s Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg with their head coach in a hospital bed rather than on the training pitch. The club insists football can wait; the immediate question is not how Bayern will line up at the weekend, but when Kompany will be fit enough to return.
