Vincent Kompany Collapses at Bayern Munich Training

Vincent Kompany has been taken to hospital after collapsing at Bayern Munich’s training ground on Friday, casting a sudden shadow over the Bundesliga leaders’ season.

The 40-year-old Bayern coach was observing a session when he went down, the club confirmed. Medical staff attended immediately before he was transported to hospital, where he will now undergo what the club described as “comprehensive examinations” and remain under care.

For now, his staff step in. Bayern said Kompany’s coaching team will run training and handle all match-related duties while he recovers.

Bayern close ranks around their coach

Inside the club, the message is clear: football can wait.

“Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority,” said sporting director Max Eberl, underlining the mood in Munich. He stressed that Bayern would give their head coach all the time he needs, adding that “Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs.”

Kompany had already been struggling this week. A viral infection had ruled him out of a training session and a press conference on Tuesday, raising early concerns over his condition. Even so, he returned to the touchline on Wednesday night, taking his place in the dugout for Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League at the Allianz Arena.

After that match, he admitted he had tried to push through the illness and had ignored the warning signs his body was sending. Two days later, those signals could no longer be brushed aside.

Freiburg trip under a cloud

On the pitch, Bayern’s schedule does not slow down. The league leaders, fresh from that high-intensity European draw with Arsenal, are due to travel to Freiburg on Sunday in the Bundesliga.

Kompany will not be there.

His assistants will lead the team into the weekend fixture, tasked with maintaining Bayern’s momentum while their head coach focuses on his health. The club has repeated that the coaching staff will continue to oversee all training and match operations for as long as Kompany remains under medical supervision.

Bayern, a club built on control and planning, now face an altogether different test: navigating a crucial phase of the season without the man at the centre of their new project, and doing it while everyone waits for the only result that truly matters — a clean bill of health for Vincent Kompany.
