Spinazzola Injury Adds to Napoli’s Challenges Before Fiorentina Match

Napoli’s brief burst of optimism has run straight into another setback. Leonardo Spinazzola will not travel to Florence, the latest key name ruled out as the Partenopei prepare for Sunday’s lunchtime clash with Fiorentina.

The club confirmed on Friday that the full-back skipped group training after suffering a mild strain to the hamstring of his right thigh. The issue, while not severe, is enough to sideline the Italy international for the game at the Stadio Franchi, scheduled for 12:30 CET (11:30 BST).

For a squad already stretched, it is a blow in a sensitive area of the pitch. Spinazzola’s experience and ability to drive play from the left had offered a reassuring option as Napoli tried to stabilise a season that has veered between frustration and flickers of recovery.

The medical bulletin did not stop there. Frank Zambo Anguissa also continued to work away from the main group, training separately and leaving his chances of involvement in Florence extremely slim. In midfield, his absence strips Napoli of one of their most reliable physical presences between the lines.

Unavailable Players

The list of players unavailable for the trip is long and unforgiving: Alessandro Buongiorno, Luca Marianucci, Scott McTominay, Giovane, Alex Meret and Alisson Santos will all miss out. Every department is affected – defence, midfield, attack, and even the goalkeeping position – forcing the coaching staff into another round of reshuffles and compromises.

All this comes just as Napoli had begun to steady themselves. Last weekend’s 1-0 win over Bologna at the Stadio Maradona stopped a run of three consecutive defeats in all competitions and briefly cleared the air. The performance wasn’t spectacular, but the result mattered more than the aesthetics. It offered a platform.
