Sacha Boey’s Bayern Exit Stalls as Freund Indicates Change

What looked like a brief Bayern Munich chapter for Sacha Boey may yet turn into something more substantial.

The German champions had been ready to move the French right-back on this summer, but the market never opened the door they wanted. With the German transfer window now shut and no deal agreed, the 25-year-old suddenly finds himself back in the frame in Munich rather than on the departure list.

Sporting director Christoph Freund did not hide that the original plan had been different. He did, however, make it clear that the situation has shifted.

“The probability is now greater that he'll stay here,” Freund said on Friday, underlining that Boey has given the club no problems behind the scenes. “He's always behaved in impeccable fashion. The plan was different, but this can happen in football.”

That last line tells the story. Bayern tried to reshape the squad. The market pushed back.

Boey, signed with high expectations and hit by misfortune and competition, had looked like a candidate for a clean break. Instead, the clock kept ticking, the window closed, and no suitable offer arrived. The right-back who was supposed to leave is now edging towards a second chance.

Freund spelled out the club’s stance in simple terms: “When all transfer windows are closed and he's still here, then he'll remain a player in our squad.”

For Boey, that sentence changes everything. From expendable asset to potential option in a Bayern season that will demand depth, durability and discipline — qualities the club insist he has already shown off the pitch.
