Noel Gallagher's Take on Enzo Fernandez's Impact at Manchester City

Noel Gallagher has never been shy about what he wants from Manchester City. Now he thinks they’ve finally gone and bought it.

Enzo Fernandez’s arrival has lit up the blue half of Manchester, and the Oasis guitarist, lifelong City diehard and professional straight-talker, wasted no time nailing his colours to the mast. Speaking on Talksport, Gallagher cut through the usual transfer chatter with a blunt verdict.

“Enzo is exactly the player we need,” he said.

For Gallagher, this is not just about another technically gifted midfielder dropping into Pep Guardiola’s system. It is about edge. About confrontation. About a player who relishes the fight as much as the pass.

He zoomed in on Fernandez’s competitive streak, describing that profile as something City have been lacking in the middle of the pitch. The team that has passed everyone to death, broken records and hoovered up trophies, in his eyes, still needed a certain type of character.

“We’ve been missing that,” Gallagher admitted, before reaching for a comparison that will raise eyebrows in both Manchester and beyond.

He referenced Roy Keane. Not as a direct equal, not as a like-for-like clone, but as a template of attitude. A standard of confrontation.

“We wanted a player similar to Roy Keane, not to put him on his level, but one who stands up to opponents,” Gallagher said, underlining that what excites him most about Fernandez is not a highlight reel of goals or assists, but personality. The willingness to snarl, to bite back, to set the tone.

In Gallagher’s mind, Fernandez brings an intensity that he simply does not see elsewhere in City’s current midfield options. The champions are packed with elegance and invention, but he believes they have been short of someone who imposes himself when the game turns nasty.

“I want that at City, because Phil (Foden) is not going to do it, Elliott Anderson is not going to do it,” he reflected, naming names and making it clear that this is a different kind of signing. In his view, Fernandez can become the man charged with demanding respect in the centre of the pitch, the one who makes opponents think twice before stepping into a 50–50.

For Gallagher, the appeal goes beyond tactics or numbers. It is about what Fernandez has shown since the moment he walked through the door. The Argentine’s attitude, his way of carrying himself, has struck a chord with one of City’s most famous followers.

“I’m happy that he’s here,” Gallagher said, before hinting at a particular detail that grabbed him – something in Fernandez’s early behaviour that he reads as a clear statement of intent.

City have spent years perfecting control. With Enzo Fernandez, Gallagher believes they have finally signed someone who can control the temperature as well.
