Lucas Bergvall Signs New Contract with Tottenham: De Zerbi Praises Brave Midfielder

Tottenham have moved quickly to shut down any doubt over Lucas Bergvall’s future, tying the Sweden international to a new contract after a summer of mounting interest from Premier League rivals.

The 20-year-old, already a fixture in the side with 80 appearances in all competitions, has now formally committed to Spurs at the end of a year that has seen his stock rise sharply for club and country. Bergvall featured at this summer’s World Cup for Sweden and has 14 senior caps to his name, a rapid climb that has not gone unnoticed across the league.

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle both circled during the window, sensing an opportunity. They have their answer now. Bergvall has chosen the project in north London.

“I think we’re building something great here,” he said after signing. “It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract.”

This is not a player content to stand still. Bergvall set out his targets with the same directness he shows on the pitch.

“Personally, my goal is to produce more for the team – performances, goals and assists – to help as much as I can. I’m getting better every day in training and I’m looking forward to what will be a really good season ahead.”

For Roberto De Zerbi, the new deal locks in a key piece of his evolving Tottenham side. The Spurs boss has rarely hidden his admiration for Bergvall’s attitude, and he underlined it again as the ink dried on the contract.

“Every day in training you can see Lucas’ desire to learn, improve and push himself to the highest level,” De Zerbi said. “Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments.

“I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential.”

Tottenham now have what every ambitious club craves: a young international already hardened by major tournament experience, yet still some distance from his ceiling, choosing to stake his future on their trajectory. How far Bergvall can climb from here will say a lot about where Spurs are heading under De Zerbi.
