Ligue 1 Predictions: Strasbourg vs Monaco Showdown

The predictions battle is back, and one man has already stolen a march.

GFFN editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle leads the early-season contest on 15 points, with sub-editor Bastien Cheval chasing on 8. The scoring system is ruthless and rewarding in equal measure: three points for an exact scoreline, two for the right goal difference, one for simply calling the result. Over a long Ligue 1 campaign, every margin matters.

This weekend, all eyes fall on Alsace.

Strasbourg’s Fire vs Monaco’s Steel

RC Strasbourg Alsace v AS Monaco, Saturday 16:15 (UK). It reads like a tactical test, but it feels like a stress test.

Monaco arrive in blistering form. Since Filipe Luís took over, Les Monégasques have rattled off five wins from five, capped by a statement victory at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain last week. They do not just win; they suffocate. No side in Ligue 1 currently boasts a better defence.

Now comes the sharpest attack in the division.

Strasbourg are flying. Six goals past ESTAC Troyes last weekend underlined their cutting edge, but the warning shot had already been fired a week earlier: a 2-1 win over RC Lens at the Meinau, a result that confirmed they can bloody the noses of the league’s heavyweights on home turf.

Something has to give.

Monaco’s back line, so settled and secure under Luís, will be tested like never before in this run. The Brazilian coach, who has barely touched his starting XI since taking charge, now has a problem to solve. Mamadou Coulibaly has been ruled out with a quadriceps injury, forcing the first significant change to a winning formula.

Strasbourg, by contrast, are stable. No new absentees, no surprise returns. The same group that put six past Troyes and toppled Lens will go again at a raucous Meinau, knowing they are up against the form team in France.

Both of GFFN’s predictors see a shootout. Luke and Bastien are united: Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco. Goals, chaos, and no winner — at least on the pitch.

In the predictions table, though, every call counts.

Luke’s Ligue 1 Picks

Luke, the early leader, goes bold again across the slate:

  • Rennes 3-1 Marseille
  • Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
  • Le Havre 1-0 Angers
  • Auxerre 0-1 Nice
  • Lorient 0-2 Toulouse
  • Paris FC 2-1 Lyon
  • Lille 3-0 Troyes
  • Le Mans 1-1 Lens
  • Brest 0-2 PSG

There is a clear pattern: trust in the big hitters. Comfortable wins for Lille and PSG, a tight away success for Nice, and a bruising afternoon predicted for Lyon at Paris FC.

Bastien’s Response

Bastien, trailing but far from out of the race, mirrors some of Luke’s calls yet looks for his edge in the margins:

  • Rennes 3-1 Marseille
  • Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
  • Auxerre 0-1 Nice
  • Le Havre 1-1 Angers
  • Lorient 1-0 Toulouse
  • Paris FC 2-1 Lyon
  • Lille 1-0 Troyes
  • Le Mans 2-1 Lens
  • Brest 0-2 PSG

He agrees on Rennes’ superiority over Marseille, the stalemate thriller in Strasbourg, Nice’s narrow win at Auxerre, Paris FC’s upset over Lyon, and PSG’s authority in Brest. The differences lie in the details: a draw instead of a Le Havre win, a home edge for Lorient, a tighter Lille victory, and Le Mans to spring a surprise on Lens.

Those small divergences could swing the standings dramatically by Sunday night.

Luke holds the advantage for now. Bastien needs a big weekend. And as Strasbourg’s attack runs at Monaco’s iron-clad defence, the predictions duel might just be as gripping as the game itself.
