Djed Spence's Anticipated Debut for Inter Milan

Djed Spence’s wait for Inter is almost over.

The English full-back, signed amid real expectation from Tottenham in a €35m deal this summer, is on course to make his Nerazzurri debut when Serie A returns in October, according to Gazzetta.

From World Cup strain to San Siro stage

Spence arrived in Milan with the glow – and the fatigue – of a gruelling World Cup behind him. The 26-year-old played his part in England’s run to the latter stages in 2026, a campaign that left its mark on his fitness levels.

Since landing at Appiano Gentile, he has been working away from the main group, following a tailored programme to rebuild his sharpness. No rush, no risks. Inter paid heavily for his prime years and have treated his integration as an investment, not a race.

Those images of him in Atlanta, shutting down Argentina’s Giuliano Simeone in the World Cup semi-final, are the reference point. Inter want that Spence: explosive, aggressive, relentless up and down the flank.

Separate sessions, clear target

For now, the plan remains clear. As reported by Gazzetta, Spence will continue to train separately this week, completing the final phase of his conditioning work. The next step is already mapped out: a return to full group training next week, once the international break moves into its final stretch.

Cristian Chivu has granted his squad a full week off, a deliberate pause before the autumn schedule tightens. Players not away with their national teams will be back at the training ground on Monday, when the tempo will rise again and tactical work for the restart begins in earnest.

That is when Spence is expected to slot in properly, finally working within Chivu’s structure rather than on the fringes of it.

Date circled: Parma at San Siro

The target is set: October 10 at San Siro, when Inter host Parma in their first game back after the break. By then, Spence is expected to be available for selection, ready at last to pull on the shirt in a competitive match.

He has already walked the touchline at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, pictured before the league clash with Monza in August, a new signing still waiting for his moment. The next time he steps out, the expectation is that it will be with the game in front of him, not just the warm-up bib on his back.

Inter bought Spence to impact big nights in Milan. The countdown to his first one has finally begun.
