Arda Güler's New Contract Secures Future at Real Madrid
Arda Güler’s rise at Real Madrid is about to be written into the club’s long-term future.
After Spanish outlet AS revealed on Thursday that talks were moving in the right direction, Fabrizio Romano went a step further a few hours later: Real Madrid have fully agreed all details of a new contract with the 21-year-old’s camp, locking in one of the most exciting young midfielders in Europe for the next decade.
A contract for the core
The deal is set to run at least until 2031, with Romano reporting it could even stretch to 2032. That would place Güler in an exclusive bracket inside the dressing room. Only summer signing Yan Diomande, brought in for a hefty €125 million, is tied down longer, with his contract running to 2033.
For Güler, the imminent signature is more than paperwork. It is confirmation that he has moved from promising prospect to part of the club’s inner circle. When he arrived from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, his original contract ran until 2029. That already looked like a statement. This extension is something else entirely.
Real Madrid initially paid €28 million to Fenerbahce to win the race for the gifted left-footer. At the time, it felt like a bold investment in potential. It now looks like a bargain. Güler’s current market value stands at around €90 million, putting him clear at the top of the list of the most valuable Turkish footballers.
The club are preparing to pay him accordingly. His previous salary, reported at around €5 million per year, is expected to jump significantly in line with his new status. Madrid do not hand out decade-long contracts to squad players.
From prospect to pillar
Güler has earned this deal on the pitch. Step by step, and under intense scrutiny, he has made himself increasingly indispensable.
Last season he produced 20 goal involvements across 51 competitive appearances, steadily forcing his way from cameo roles into the starting XI. The numbers tell part of the story; the timing of his contributions tells the rest. He delivered in tight games, he found space where there was none, and he showed the calm of a veteran in the final third.
The arrival of Jose Mourinho this season has not slowed that momentum. It has sharpened it. Under the new head coach, Güler has started three of Real Madrid’s first four league matches and has responded with a goal and an assist in each of those starts. Every time Mourinho has trusted him from the first whistle, Güler has put his name on the scoresheet and the teamsheet for the next game.
Only suspension has checked his stride. A red card from last season ruled him out of the 2-1 Champions League win over Inter Milan, a night that would have suited his temperament and talent. Even so, his influence on Madrid’s early campaign is impossible to ignore.
Real Madrid do not often move this quickly to lock down a player who arrived only a year ago. When they do, it usually signals one thing: they believe they are looking at a cornerstone of the next era at the Bernabéu.
