Alisson Becker Fined £8,000 for Post-Match Incident

Alisson Becker has been hit with an £8,000 fine by the Football Association after the Liverpool goalkeeper lost his composure in the tunnel area and vented his anger on the fourth official’s electronic numbers board following the final whistle.

The FA confirmed the charge for misconduct, stating that the Brazilian “acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle.” Alisson accepted the charge and with it the standard penalty, drawing a line under his part in a chaotic end to the game.

His fury stemmed from a contentious late penalty awarded against Liverpool for a foul on Neco Williams. The challenge came after the defender had already got his shot away, with contact arriving only after the ball had gone. Alisson reacted furiously to the decision on the pitch and clearly carried that frustration with him as he headed back towards the dressing rooms.

Tension had already been simmering. In the moments before the incident, the fourth official’s numbers board malfunctioned, delaying a planned triple substitution by Andoni Iraola. The stoppage added to the sense of confusion and irritation on the touchline.

Now, the Key Match Incident (KMI) Panel has delivered its verdict: referee Sam Barrott made the wrong call in awarding the spot-kick. The independent review undercuts the original decision that so enraged Alisson, even if it does nothing to change the result or the goalkeeper’s punishment.

The fine stands. The penalty, in the eyes of the panel, should never have.
